Thomas Joshua Cooper is an American photographer, born in San Francisco on 19 December 1946. He has long been based in Scotland, where he taught at Glasgow School of Art. He is regarded as one of the leading contemporary landscape photographers. His work is made with a large format camera and is usually black and white, concentrating on remote coasts, headlands and bodies of water, many of them at the edges of the world. His long project The World’s Edge involves travelling to the extremities of land to photograph the sea. His prints are held in many public collections.
