Tarek Atoui is a Lebanese contemporary artist and composer, born in Beirut in 1980. His practice sits between music, sound and installation, and he is known for making new instruments and listening environments, often together with other musicians and with deaf and hearing participants. He has worked on projects for museums and festivals in Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere. He began as a composer and performer in electronic music, and his later work treats sound as something shared, built and handled, as much as heard. He has lived and worked in Paris for many years.
