Prunella Clough was a London painter who found her subjects in places most people overlook: lorry drivers, factories, wasteland, wire fences and urban debris. Her early figurative paintings of the 1940s and 1950s gradually became quiet, textured abstractions. She taught for many years at Wimbledon School of Art and influenced generations of students. She won the Jerwood Painting Prize in 1999, shortly before her death.
