Pilloo Pochkhanawala was one of the first women sculptors in India. Born in 1923, she was self-taught and worked in metal, stone, wood and other materials, often taking nature or the human figure as her starting point. She also made drawings and designed theatrical sets. Alongside her own work she helped other artists in Bombay as an organiser and go-between in the arts. She died in 1986.
