Pierre Alechinsky is a Belgian painter and printmaker, born in Brussels in 1927, who has lived and worked in France since 1951. He was the youngest member of CoBrA, the post-war group of artists from Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam, and his loose, energetic ink and acrylic paintings are linked with tachisme and lyrical abstraction. Influenced by Japanese calligraphy, he often frames a central image with a border of small comic-strip panels. His work is in many collections, including Tate.
