Pedro Berruguete was a Spanish painter who joined Netherlandish oil technique to Italian ideas of space and is considered by some the first Renaissance painter in Spain. He is thought to have worked at the court of Federico da Montefeltro in Urbino, where he painted famous men for the duke’s study. Back in Castile he painted altarpieces for churches in Ávila, Paredes de Nava and elsewhere. His Saint Dominic Presiding over an Auto da Fe is in the Prado.
