Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German painter whose small, witty and poetic works range from childlike drawing to subtle abstraction in colour. He was associated with Der Blaue Reiter, found his sense of colour on a trip to Tunisia in 1914 and taught at the Bauhaus from 1921 to 1931. His lectures on form and colour are among the most important writings on modern art. The Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern holds his largest collection, and Tate holds several works, among them They’re Biting.
