Nan Goldin is an American photographer whose intimate, snapshot-style colour pictures record her own life and friends in the bohemian and queer scenes of Boston and New York. The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, a slideshow with music first shown in the 1980s, follows love, sex, addiction and violence among them. Many of her friends died of AIDS, which became a subject of her work. She later founded the group PAIN to campaign against the Sackler family over the opioid crisis, the subject of the film All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.
