Michael Heizer is an American land artist from Berkeley, California who works on a huge scale in the desert. Double Negative, two trenches cut into a mesa in Nevada in 1969 and 1970, is one of the founding works of Land Art. His largest work, City, a mile and a half of earth and concrete forms in the Nevada desert, took more than 50 years to build and opened to visitors in 2022. Levitated Mass, a 340-tonne boulder above a walkway, is at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
