Mark Wallinger is an English artist from Chigwell in Essex who works in painting, sculpture, video and installation, often on themes of national identity, faith and power. Ecce Homo, a life-size figure of Christ, was the first work shown on the empty fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square in 1999. State Britain, his recreation of Brian Haw’s peace protest outside Parliament, won the Turner Prize in 2007 and is in Tate’s collection. He also made Labyrinth, a set of enamel plaques for every London Underground station.
