Margaret Benyon trained as a painter at the Slade and taught herself holography after reading about it in 1967. Her show at Nottingham in 1969 is often called the first solo exhibition of art holograms. She worked in Britain and Australia, set up her own holography studio in Dorset in 1983 and took a doctorate at the Royal College of Art. She is often described as the mother of British holography.
