Luca Signorelli was a painter from Cortona, perhaps a pupil of Piero della Francesca, noted for his powerful drawing of the nude and his bold foreshortening. His masterpiece is the fresco cycle of the End of the World and the Last Judgement in the San Brizio Chapel of Orvieto Cathedral, painted between 1499 and 1503, which impressed the young Michelangelo. He also painted in the Sistine Chapel and at Monte Oliveto Maggiore. The National Gallery in London has his Circumcision and other altarpieces.
