Lieke Ritman grew up in the Netherlands and Australia, studied interior design at RMIT in Melbourne, and began painting on a trip to Europe in 1965. She settled in St Ives at the end of the 1960s, worked as a picture framer, and with the encouragement of Douglas Portway began to paint seriously, becoming a member of the Penwith Society of Arts in 1970. Her semi-abstract paintings and prints of the Cornish coast use simple compositions, textured marks and a quiet palette. Light & Water is at New Craftsman Gallery.
