John Duncan was a Scottish Symbolist painter from Dundee, a leading artist of the Celtic Revival. Through Patrick Geddes in Edinburgh he painted murals and illustrated the Celtic magazine The Evergreen, and he filled his pictures with figures from Celtic legend and myth. His best-known painting, The Riders of the Sidhe of 1911, is in the McManus gallery in his home city of Dundee. He later lived in Edinburgh and was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy.
