Jessie M. King was a Scottish illustrator and designer, one of the Glasgow Girls of the Art Nouveau years. She trained at Glasgow School of Art, where she taught book decoration and design from 1899, and her delicate pen drawings for fairy tales and poems won her an international name. She also designed jewellery, fabrics, wallpaper and ceramics, and was a pioneer of batik in Britain. With her husband, the artist E. A. Taylor, she moved to Kirkcudbright in 1915 and was at the heart of its artists’ colony until her death.
