Jenny Holzer

Jenny Holzer is an American artist from Ohio whose medium is words placed in public space. Her Truisms, one-line statements such as Protect me from what I want, began as anonymous posters in New York in the late 1970s and later ran on electronic signs in Times Square. She has used LED displays, carved benches, projections on buildings and redacted government documents. She was the first woman to represent the United States alone at the Venice Biennale, winning the Golden Lion in 1990.
