Jean Goujon was a French sculptor and architect, probably from Normandy, and the leading French sculptor of the mid sixteenth century. His graceful low reliefs of nymphs on the Fountain of the Innocents in Paris and his caryatids for the Salle des Caryatides in the Louvre show a refined classical style. He worked on Pierre Lescot’s new wing of the Louvre and at the château of Anet. A Protestant, he left France during the religious wars and is thought to have died in Bologna.
