Henry Andrews Luscombe was a Plymouth marine painter, the son of a coal merchant. He painted shipping in Plymouth Sound and showed eleven pictures at the Royal Academy. For years he combined painting with a job as secretary of a coal company, and after it closed in 1876 he painted full time. He moved to Uxbridge late in life.
