Gulnur Mukazhanova is a Kazakh artist who lives and works in Berlin and makes paintings, sculpture and photographs in felt, the traditional textile of Central Asia. She studied in Karaganda and at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts in Almaty, then at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Working mainly with white felt and brocade, she uses the idea of the dowry to look at tradition, identity and globalisation from a woman’s point of view, and made a Bagri Commission for the Whitworth in Manchester.
