Gordon Matta-Clark was an American artist who trained as an architect at Cornell University. He is best known for cutting through abandoned buildings, in works such as Bingo, Conical Intersect in Paris and Day’s End on a New York pier, and recording them in film and photographs. He called this approach anarchitecture. He also co-founded the artist-run restaurant FOOD in SoHo and died of cancer at 35.
