Sir Frank Brangwyn was an Anglo-Welsh painter, muralist, printmaker and designer, born in Bruges to a Welsh father. As a young man he worked for William Morris and went to sea, and his rich, crowded pictures of docks, markets and labour won him an international name. He made huge etchings and murals, including the British Empire Panels, painted for the House of Lords and rejected, which went to the Guildhall in Swansea, now the Brangwyn Hall. He gave large collections of his work to towns in Britain and Belgium, and the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea holds many works.
