El Lissitzky was a Russian artist, designer and architect who worked with Kazimir Malevich at Vitebsk and developed his Prouns, abstract compositions between painting and architecture. His poster Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge is one of the best-known images of the Russian Revolution. He spread Constructivist ideas through Germany and the Netherlands in the 1920s and transformed typography, exhibition design and photomontage. He also illustrated Yiddish children’s books.
