Died

Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter and printmaker whose images of anxiety, love, jealousy and death made him a forerunner of Expressionism. He grouped many of his paintings of the 1890s into a cycle he called The Frieze of Life, which includes The Scream, Madonna and Vampire. He was also an inventive printmaker in woodcut and lithograph, and worked in Berlin and Paris before settling at Ekely near Oslo. Most of his work is now in the MUNCH museum in Oslo.
