Donald Judd was an American artist and critic and a central figure of Minimalism, though he disliked the term. From the 1960s he made boxes, stacks and progressions of identical units in metal, plywood and Plexiglas, often fabricated industrially, which he called specific objects. In 1971 he began to settle in Marfa, Texas, where he installed his own and other artists’ work permanently in old army buildings. Tate holds several of his stacks and boxes.
