Desiderio da Settignano was a Florentine sculptor from the stone-carving village of Settignano, admired for the delicacy of his marble work in very low relief. His tomb of Carlo Marsuppini in Santa Croce and the Sacrament Tabernacle in San Lorenzo are his best-known commissions, and he carved tender busts of women and children. He died young, in his thirties. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London holds his relief of the Virgin and Child known as the Dudley Madonna.
