Claes Oldenburg was a Swedish-born American sculptor and a leading figure of Pop Art in New York. He made soft sculptures of hamburgers, toilets and typewriters in vinyl and canvas, and in 1961 sold plaster food from his shop, The Store. With his wife Coosje van Bruggen he made huge public sculptures of everyday things, including Clothespin in Philadelphia and Spoonbridge and Cherry in Minneapolis. Tate holds Soft Drainpipe, Blue (Cool) Version.
