Giovanni Battista Cima, called Cima da Conegliano after his home town, was a painter who worked mostly in Venice in the circle of Giovanni Bellini. His altarpieces and devotional paintings are known for their clear light, calm figures and lovingly painted landscapes of the hills around Conegliano. Among his best-known works are the Baptism of Christ in San Giovanni in Bragora in Venice. The National Gallery in London has his Incredulity of Saint Thomas and The Virgin and Child.
