Sir Cedric Morris was a Welsh painter known for bold flower paintings, portraits and landscapes. He trained in Paris and spent time in Cornwall before settling in Suffolk, where with Arthur Lett-Haines he founded the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing, later based at Benton End in Hadleigh. Lucian Freud and Maggi Hambling were among its students. He was also a celebrated plantsman who bred many irises, and as a boy he went to school in Eastbourne.
