Bryan Pearce was born in St Ives and lived there all his life. Born with the metabolic condition phenylketonuria, he began painting in his twenties with the encouragement of his mother and joined the Penwith Society of Arts. His flat, brightly coloured views of the town’s harbour, churches and streets made him one of the best-known naive painters in Britain. Tate St Ives and other public collections hold his work.
