Betty Rea was a London-born sculptor who studied at the Royal College of Art, where Henry Moore became a friend. She was a founder member of the Artists’ International Association and its secretary from 1934 to 1936, and her figure sculpture reflected her socialist views. She lived in Cambridge with the painter Nan Youngman and taught sculpture at Homerton College. Her last work, Swimmers, was finished after her death.
