Bartolomé Bermejo was a Spanish painter born in Córdoba who worked in the Crown of Aragon, in Valencia, Zaragoza and Barcelona, and was one of the finest oil painters of fifteenth-century Spain. He worked in the Hispano-Flemish manner, with minutely detailed surfaces, glowing colour and gold. His Desplà Pietà in Barcelona Cathedral sets the dead Christ in a wide landscape. The National Gallery in London has his Saint Michael Triumphant over the Devil, with the Donor Antoni Joan.
