Antonio del Pollaiuolo was a Florentine painter, sculptor, engraver and goldsmith who ran a workshop with his brother Piero. He studied the human body in action more closely than any artist before him, and his engraving Battle of the Nudes was copied across Europe. His bronze Hercules and Antaeus is in the Bargello, and he made the bronze tombs of Popes Sixtus IV and Innocent VIII in Rome, where he died. The National Gallery in London has The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, painted with his brother, and Apollo and Daphne.
