Amar Kanwar is an Indian artist and film-maker, born in New Delhi in 1964, who lives and works in the city. His multi-screen film installations move between documentary, poetry and archive to look at labour and indigenous rights, gender, religious violence and ecology. His best-known project, The Sovereign Forest, gathers evidence of land conflict and industrial mining in Odisha. He has shown several times at documenta in Kassel.
