Lee Alexander McQueen was an English fashion designer, the son of a London taxi driver, who learned tailoring on Savile Row before taking an MA at Central Saint Martins. His graduate collection was bought whole by the stylist Isabella Blow, and his provocative shows in the 1990s, such as Highland Rape and later the spray-painted dress of No. 13, made him one of the most influential designers of his generation. He was chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001 and won British Designer of the Year four times. The Victoria and Albert Museum showed his retrospective Savage Beauty in 2015.
