Albert Chevallier Tayler studied at Heatherley’s, the Royal Academy Schools and in Paris before joining the painters working in the open air at Newlyn in the 1880s. His Newlyn pictures, such as The Blessing of the Nets and scenes of fishing families, share the colony’s naturalistic style. He later became a successful portrait painter and is also remembered for his paintings of cricketers. He died in London in 1925.
