Anish Kapoor is a British Indian sculptor, born in Mumbai, who came to Britain in the 1970s and studied at Hornsey and Chelsea art schools. He first became known for forms covered in pure powdered pigment, then for highly polished mirrored steel and works that seem to open into deep voids. His public works include Cloud Gate in Chicago and the ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Olympic Park in London, and Marsyas filled Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in 2002. He won the Turner Prize in 1991.
